How I Increased Organic Traffic by 200% in 3 Months – A Data-Driven SEO Case Study

Updated
4 min read

In the dynamic world of SEO, success often depends on precision, consistency, and an eye for optimization opportunities. At AlgoExchange.in, we took on the challenge to boost organic traffic within a tight 3-month window—and the results were nothing short of transformative: a 200% increase in organic traffic.

In this case study, I’ll break down the strategies, tools, and data that powered this growth, along with key takeaways that you can apply to your own website.

The Starting Point: Where We Were

In early January, AlgoExchange.in was receiving around 3,500 organic visitors per month, mostly from branded queries and a handful of blog posts. The bounce rate was high (~68%), and the average time on site was low (under 1 minute). Clearly, we were getting traffic—but not the right kind of traffic.

We set a clear goal:
Increase high-intent organic traffic by 200% within 90 days—without paid ads.

Phase 1: Data Analysis & SEO Audit

Tools Used:

  • Google Search Console

  • Google Analytics

  • Ahrefs

  • Screaming Frog

  • Surfer SEO

  • PageSpeed Insights

We began by identifying:

  • Top-performing pages vs underperforming ones

  • Keyword cannibalization

  • Broken internal links & crawl errors

  • Low CTR pages despite high impressions

  • Pages with no backlinks

From this, we created a 15-point SEO action plan—prioritizing technical SEO, content optimization, and backlink strategy.

Phase 2: On-Page SEO Optimization

1. Keyword Mapping & Intent Matching

Using Ahrefs and Surfer SEO, we mapped high-volume, low-competition keywords to existing and new pages.
Example:

  • Old Title: “Best Algo Tools”

  • New Title: “Top Algorithmic Trading Tools in India (2024 Review)”

We optimized for search intent, not just keywords.

2. Internal Linking Boost

We revamped the internal linking structure using contextual anchor text, helping Google crawl deeper and reducing bounce rates.

Result: Dwell time increased by 30%, and pages/session improved from 1.2 to 2.0.

3. Content Refresh & SEO Copywriting

Outdated blog posts were updated with:

  • New stats

  • FAQs

  • Structured data (FAQ Schema)

  • Visuals & infographics

  • “People Also Ask” section optimization

Phase 3: Technical SEO Cleanup

  • Fixed Core Web Vitals: Largest Contentful Paint reduced from 4.1s to 2.3s.

  • Removed thin content pages or merged them with relevant ones.

  • Optimized for mobile-first indexing.

  • Created an updated XML sitemap and robots.txt.

We also implemented breadcrumb schema and article schema across the blog.

Phase 4: High-Impact Content Strategy

We launched a weekly blog calendar based on topic clusters around trading algorithms and market automation.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Comparison blogs (e.g., “Zerodha Algo vs. Angel One Algo”)

  • Tutorials (e.g., “How to Automate Your Stock Trades with Python”)

  • Case Studies (like this one!)

  • Beginner Guides

Each blog included:

  • Targeted long-tail keywords

  • Custom meta descriptions

  • Optimized images (WebP + ALT tags)

  • Shareable snippets

We saw the first signs of a traffic spike around week 5.

We identified 50+ niche sites and blogs for manual outreach, guest posting, and content swaps.

Backlinks Built (Jan–March):

  • 18 Guest Posts

  • 6 HARO features

  • 9 High DA directories

  • 15 Contextual backlinks from forums like TradingQ&A, Quora, and Reddit

Additionally, we repurposed blog content into:

  • LinkedIn carousels

  • Twitter threads

  • Infographics for Pinterest

DR improved from 12 to 24, and 20+ keywords moved to Page 1.

The Results: By the Numbers

Key Takeaways

  1. SEO is not just about rankings; it’s about relevance. Match your content to search intent, not just keywords.

  2. Small wins compound: internal linking, meta tweaks, and image optimization added up.

  3. Consistency is king. Publishing high-quality blogs weekly established topical authority.

  4. Technical health matters. A slow, broken, or bloated site will cap your growth.

  5. Invest in backlinks strategically, not blindly. Quality trumps quantity.

If you're running a website in a competitive niche, remember: SEO success is a marathon. But with the right strategy, tools, and effort—you can create powerful, compounding traffic growth.
